The Guru is the means of realization. "There is no knowledge without a teacher."
-Swami Vivekananda
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1888-1975) was one of the most recognized and influential Indian thinkers in academic circles in the 20th century. We celebrate teachers day since 5th September 1962, every person who has taught us something is just like a teacher to us, it’s not limited to our professors at college or school, it can be a dance teacher, our parents, a friend who made us see sense and even in an enemy who walking on the other path showed us the consequences. It is because of all these people, we are what we are today. The sense of giving lies in a teacher as they push us to thrive in this world by giving us every piece of knowledge they have. They simply keep on giving.
“Give as the rose gives perfume because it is its own nature, utterly unconscious of giving"
- Swami Vivekananda
Let’s use this auspicious occasion to give back a little, by being kind to them during our online classes, by being humble, and by making them realize they are making a difference. Today is about remembering whom we learned from and showing them gratitude with utmost respect.
Our second president wanted us to realize the importance of our teachers and celebrate their presence their knowledge, their sense of giving in our life. On 5th September every year we remember our guru, I did too! I told my teacher, that I’m grateful to have had her in my life, it was because she helped me overcome my stage fear, which made me the person I’m today. Use this occasion to talk to your teachers, make them realize their importance.
As Sant Kabir has impeccably described the significance of a Guru in one’s life,
गुरु समान दाता नहीं, याचक सीष समान। तीन लोक की सम्पदा, सो गुरु दिन्ही दान।।
Meaning- Nobody is as giving as a guru and as absorbent as his disciple. Guru gives away the most important of the riches in the universe, his knowledge.
