I'D MUCH RATHER HAVE A VACCINE THAN HAVE THIS VIRUS” – Paul A. Volberding, MD
INTRODUCTION:
The Covid-19 vaccination drive will open for all persons above 18 years from May 1. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. During Monday's meeting, PM Modi said that the government had been working hard for over a year to ensure that most Indians get vaccines in the shortest possible time. He added that India is vaccinating people at a record pace and this will continue with even greater momentum.
As part of the 'liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of Covid-19 vaccination', all persons above the age of 18 years will be eligible to get Covid-19 vaccine jabs.
As the drive is set to be expanded, the government said it was regularly in touch with all vaccine manufacturers and has sent multiple inter-ministerial teams onsite to understand each one’s requirements and provide proactive and customised support in the form of grants, advance payments, more sites for production to ramp up manufacturing. The Centre said it would support Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute to expand capacity.
Pricing and Supply of vaccine explained:
1) Under the third phase of the vaccination drive commencing next month, the vaccine manufacturers would supply 50 per cent of their monthly Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) released doses to the central government and would be free to supply the remaining 50 per cent doses to state governments and in the open market.
2) Manufacturers would have to make an advance declaration of the price for 50% supply that would be available to the state governments and in the open market before May 1, 2021, an official statement said.
3) Private Hospitals would have to procure their supplies of Covid-19 vaccine exclusively from the 50% supply earmarked for other than Govt. of India channel. Private Vaccination providers shall transparently declare their self-set vaccination price. The eligibility through this channel would be opened up to all adults, i.e. everyone above the age of 18.
4) Vaccination shall continue as before in Govt. of India vaccination centres, provided free of cost to the eligible population as defined earlier i.e. Health Care Workers (HCWs), Front Line Workers (FLWs) and all people above 45 years of age.
5) All vaccination (through Govt. of India and Other than Govt. of India channel) would be part of the National Vaccination Programme, and mandated to follow all protocol such as being captured on CoWIN platform, linked to AEFI reporting and all other prescribed norms. Stocks and price per vaccination applicable in all vaccination centres will also have to be reported real-time.
6) The division of vaccine supply 50% to Govt. of India and 50% to other than Govt. of India channel would be applicable uniformly across for all vaccines manufactured in the country. However Government of India will allow the imported fully ready to use vaccines to be entirely utilized in the other than Govt. of India channel.
7) Govt. of India, from its share, will allocate vaccines to States/UTs based on the criteria of extent of infection (number of active Covid cases) & performance (speed of administration). Wastage of vaccine will also be considered in this criteria and will affect the criteria negatively. Based on the above criteria, State-wise quota would be decided and communicated to the States adequately in advance.
Precautions you must take before your COVID vaccine:
•Consult your doctor: There are no possible dangers of getting yourself vaccinated if you're young and healthy. However, if you're above 45 and someone with pre-existing medical conditions and comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, renal illnesses, then it is crucial that you consult your doctor and ask them whether it is safe to take the vaccine jab or not.
•Apart from consulting your doctor, you must also get a clearance for certain medications that can elevate your chances of developing an allergic reaction. That said, the Health Ministry has advised patients suffering with a history of immediate or delayed onset anaphylaxis or allergic reaction to pharmaceutical products, food items, injectable therapies, to not take the vaccine.
•Experts believe eating healthy before getting the COVID shot is of utmost importance, following which routine medicines should also be taken under the guidance of your physician.
•People who were infected with the virus or are receiving COVID treatment in the form of blood plasma therapy or monoclonal antibodies, they must refrain from taking the vaccine.
Precautions you must take after your COVID vaccine:
•Don't think that you are completely immune to COVID after vaccination, as no vaccines have a 100 per cent success rate. If you contract COVID after the vaccinations, you may get mild symptoms. There is also the possibility you may be able to transmit COVID to the people who are unvaccinated.
•Continue to wear a mask in public
•Avoid crowded spaces and stay at least at a distance of six feet from others to keep yourself and people around you safe.
•If you develop COVID symptoms, do not ignore them thinking you are immune, and consult a doctor immediately.
•Lastly, remember that the vaccination takes a while to kick in, and you will develop immunity a couple of weeks after the second dose.
•you may develop fever or headaches as a side effect within the first couple of days after vaccination, so you can take Paracetamol tablets and rest.
•Avoid strenuous physical activity 2-3 days after vaccination
CONCLUSION:
In end we can conclude that without the vaccination drive all over India we cant get rid from this pandemic. The Central government took a positive step on it declaring to administer the vaccine to all aged above 18. After this we get a new hope to come over this virus.
