PM MODI'S SECURITY BREACH DURING HIS VISIT TO PUNJAB
INTRODUCTION
PM Modi skipped his Ferozepur rally after his security was breached after arriving in the state, causing a huge uproar ahead of the Punjab elections on Wednesday. Around 30 kilometres from the destination, a huge failure in the PM's security was discovered when his convoy became stalled for 15-20 minutes due to a road barricade.
SEVERE BREACH
A "security breach" occurred during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Punjab earlier today, the Interior Ministry (MHA) said on January 5, as the route taken by his convoy to get to Hussainiwala was blocked by protesters.
The state administration have been asked to provide a full report on the matter, according to the Home Ministry.
Modi landed at Bathinda, according to a timetable given with the Punjab government, from whence he was to fly by helicopter to the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, Ferozepur district.
The prime minister waited for around 20 minutes for the weather to clear out due to rain and poor visibility. "When the weather didn't improve, he planned to drive to the National Martyrs Memorial, which would take more than two hours," MHA said in a statement. Modi travelled by road after the DGP of Punjab Police confirmed the required security preparations, according to the statement.
When the PM's convoy approached a flyover around 30 kilometres from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, it was discovered that the road was blocked by some protestors," according to the MHA.
According to the statement, the prime minister was "trapped on a flyover for 15-20 minutes," and "this was a severe breakdown in PM's security.
" The Punjab administration was given ample notice of Modi's schedule and travel plans, according to the MHA. "As per practice, they must develop adequate logistics, security, and contingency plans," it stated.
In addition, the Punjab government must deploy additional security in light of the contingency plan to secure any movement by road, "which was not implemented," according to the ministry.
Modi's visit to the National Martyrs Memorial was cancelled as a result of the security breakdown, and he was flown back to Bathinda airport.
"In light of this major security violation, the Ministry of Home Affairs has requested a full report from the state administration. The state government has also been instructed to determine who is to blame for this blunder and to take swift action "According to the MHA statement,
After the MHA confirmed the security violation, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi told News18 that the state government should have been alerted "in advance" that the prime minister may take the road route after arriving in Bathinda.
"After conversations, I worked until 3 a.m. last night to clear all roadways. The Prime Minister had to fly from Bathinda to Ferozepur... He modified his plans at the last minute at Bathinda and claimed he would travel by road. He should have informed the Punjab government ahead of time so that other arrangements could be made, as alternate routes are being prepared for VIP transit "According to Channi, he told the TV channel.
"However, he continued via road without any prior planning, and some people took advantage of the situation and blocked the way. There were no lapses in this natural occurrence "Added the chief minister.
Channi later expressed sorry about the event during a news conference. "PM Modi had to return today during his visit to Ferozepur district, which I regret. We hold our prime minister in high regard "He was reported by the news agency ANI as adding.
Modi's visit to the National Martyrs Memorial was also cancelled, as was his rally in Ferozepur, where he was set to unveil numerous development projects worth Rs 42,750 crore. The BJP has previously claimed that this would be the state's largest public gathering.
Modi's visit to Punjab was also his first since the controversial agriculture reform regulations were passed in 2020. Following a year of protests by multiple farmer unions, the laws were abolished in November of last year.
Punjab was one of the epicentres of the farmers' revolt, which was temporarily halted last month after the Modi government repealed the agricultural reform laws in Parliament.
However, some demonstrators have requested that the central government compensate the families of farmers who died as a result of the protest. On December 1, the Union Agriculture Ministry told Parliament that it has no statistics on farmer deaths during the protests.
CONCLUSION
India's Prime Minister is an institution. Every government has a responsibility to guarantee perfect security and protect this institution's dignity. In our democracy, anything to the contrary should be considered unacceptable. For the Punjab government and politics, the incident will be written in black ink. According to their allegations, this security breach was planned not just by Punjab but also by Delhi Congress. Rahul Gandhi should take a stand.
