Introduction
The Preamble of the Indian Constitution defines India to be a ‘Sovereign’ country; meaning India has its own supreme law and not a matter of any additional state or nation. It tells us that India is neither dependent nor dominion of any other country, but its own. Moreover, India is free to take decisions for their own country and is independent of any kind or form of foreign interference in its domestic affairs. Though, the Constitution provided for the sovereigneity of the nation, but in the real world, we are not truly independent of the foreign interference in our domestic matters. There are many foreign pressure groups and entities that either directly or indirectly interfere in our domestic affairs. Most of these groups work to set their influence over the Indian Politics in order to turn the situations to their advantage. These groups can be seen as getting involved in Indian Politics indirectly.
WHAT ARE FOREIGN PRESSURE GROUPS?
The term ‘Pressure Group’ is used for those who are exerting some pressure over the Government for their common interest. And ‘Foreign Pressure Groups’ are generally all those foreign entities, say foreign media, business organizations with branch in India, twitter handles, celebrities, etc. that put pressure on the Government. These are the groups or entities of the foreign countries that in one way or the other exert an influence over the decision - making of the Government and many other aspects related to the Politics.
INVOLVEMENT INTO INDIAN POLITICS
It is not possible for any country to live in isolation from rest of the world and survive on its own. In order to grow and develop, each country needs to maintain some foreign relations i.e. the country is needed to come out of its restricted policy and enter and remain in relation with some foreign countries for its survival, growth and development.
India also realized the need of good foreign relations and decided to globalise its economy in 1991. After getting Independence in 1947, we were afraid from entering in any international relation. So, we were having a policy of very less or no foreign relations. Due to this, our economy got drastically impacted and finding no other solution, Economic Reforms were introduced in 1991. Popularly, known as LPG (Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization), these reforms aimed to grow our economy. One of the aspects, Globalization told us not only to extend our market globally, but also to develop and grow good relations with some foreign countries. No doubt, extending our hands to other countries has developed us to a huge extent. But one thing that cannot be ignored is the interference of these foreign countries in our domestic affairs.
Some countries that share good relations with us try to get advantage by getting involved in our Politics as everybody knows that in a democracy, Political System is the controller and manager of the country and its development. Using these good relations, the foreign government in one way or the other exerts pressure and influence our Government.
The foreign business organizations having branch in India, like MNCs, play a key role in exerting pressure over Indian Politics. The organizations have a clear-cut objective of earning profit. In order to have the facilities and policies in their favour, they need to get indulged in Politics. Through indulging in Politics, they turn the policies and the situations to their benefit.
Some countries that are not in good terms with India work to degrade the dignity of India by raising the issues. They even try to instigate the people of India against the Government in which foreign media plays a key role.
CONCLUSION
Political System in a democracy is the one, in which any fault can hinder the growth of a nation and a good one is the ladder of the development. So, it is very important for a country to have such a system which is influenced by development and social welfare, not by the foreign pressure groups. India cannot think about growth and development after disconnecting itself from rest of the world. Starting from the limited resources to the foreign market, there are numerous reasons that make it essential for the country to maintain good relations with other countries. But while maintaining these relations, we should not ignore the influence exerted on us. Besides that, we should remain diligent and not allow others to enter our politics.
