Introduction
In this article, we discuss a new step taken by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to promote our Indian music. After the request by the Indian Council of Cultural Research (ICCR) and by civil aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the civil aviation ministry has written a letter through its Joint Secretary, Usha Padhee, to all the airlines and airports to consider playing Indian music on board. As it reflects the country's rich heritage & culture and is one of many things India is proud of, Joint Secretary added in the letter.
Why in news
As on 23rd December, the ICCR put forward the demand with other singers and musicians to the civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to make it mandatory to play Indian music on flights operated by Indian airlines as well at the airport. The letter was handed over to the ICCR president while meeting at the national capital. The demand in the letter is to playing Indian music in the aircraft operated in India should become mandatory. ICCR president said ministers are looking into the matter and would think about the demand sympathetically. And we will give voice to the minds of people. He also added that this proposal not only promotes Indian music but also promotes Indianness in people around the world. Even some singers and musicians are also in favor to promote it. Vocalist Manjusha Patil said every airline should play Indian music whether it is classical or instrumental or any other form. The letter also added that a small step can go a long way by strengthening the emotional connection of people with our tradition in music and art. About Civil Aviation of India
Civil Aviation of India is the world’s third-largest aviation according to the 2020 market. It was traced back then in 1911 after the first commercial civil aviation flight took off from polo ground in Allahabad carrying mail to Yamuna river to Naini. Air India is India’s national flag carrier after a merger with Indian in 2011 and plays a very big role in connecting India with the world. Indigo, Air India, space jet, go first, Vistara and Air Asia India are the major carriers in order of their market share. These airlines connect across 80 cities of India and operate worldwide after the liberation of Indian aviation. However, a large section of the country’s air transport potential remains untapped even through Mumbai to Delhi air corridor is ranked the world's third busiest route. India is the third-largest Civil Aviation in the market. It recorded air traffic of 131 million passengers in 2016 where 100 million were domestic passengers. The largest airline is jet Airways which transported over 10 million passengers in India as well as out of India.

1. India has a rich diversity of traditional music. Owing to Indian vastness and diversity, Indian music encompasses numerous genres in multiple varieties and forms which include classical music, folk, light vocal, etc. It has a history spanning several millennia and developed over several geolocations in the sub-continent. Music in India is an integral part of socio-religious life.
2. “ Music played by most of the airlines across the globe is quintessential of the country to which it belongs to, for example, Mozart in Australia, Arab music in airlines of middle east and Jazz in American airlines”. “But Indian airlines seldom play Indian music in the flights, whereas, Indian music reflects the country’s rich heritage and culture and is one of the many things that Indian are proud of’. The Ministry of civil aviation is the recipients of a request from ICCR for playing Indian music in aircraft being operated in India and also an airport.

Conclusion
The step taken by civil aviation is very good as it not only encourages our Indian culture but also helps it to get a wider base all over the world, ft will show all our Indian cultural music which helps to aware of the people about the importance of our culture. It will promote our culture and also Indianness. Playing Indian music in aircraft helps our ancient tradition to be an incubator in the field of music in the world as due to modernization, the ancient tradition might not have got the required encouragement.
