Subhash Chandra Bose was born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack. He is remembered as one of the great freedom fighters who sacrificed themselves for the motherland. He was an active part of the youth wing of the Indian National Congress and also became the president of the Congress in 1938. He used to give inspirational speeches on Free India Radio. He is known for the famous slogan "Give me Blood, and I shall give you Freedom."
To celebrate this day, the Union Government named this day "Prakaram Divas" while West Bengal named it "Deshnayak Divas." “Dear sisters and brothers of West Bengal, I am honored to be in your midst, that too on the auspicious day of #ParakramDivas. During the programs in Kolkata, we will pay tributes to the brave Netaji, Subhas Chandra Bose,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted in both Bengali and English.
Indian Railway also gave tribute to the visionary leader by renaming the iconic Howrah-Kalka Mail as "Netaji Express."
Howrah-Kalka Mail is one of the oldest trains in the country which is in operation since 1866.
