On Saturday, the Taliban urged the US and other countries to recognise their government in Afghanistan, claiming that failing to do so, as well as the continuous freezing of Afghan finances overseas, will cause issues not only for Afghanistan but for the entire globe.
Since the rebels took control of the country in August, no country has publicly recognised the Taliban administration, and billions of dollars in Afghan assets and finances have been blocked abroad.
Following the September 11, 2001, attacks, the US invaded Afghanistan in 2001 after the Taliban administration refused to hand over Osama bin Laden, the leader of the terrorist organisation al-Qaeda.
