On Wednesday, the Sensex rose 612 points, led by advances in index heavyweights Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, and L&T, on a favourable trend in global markets. The 30-stock index finished at 56,930.56, up 611.55 points or 1.09 per cent. The NSE Nifty also gained 184.60 points, or 1.10 per cent, to 16,955.45. With a rise of roughly 3%, Bajaj Finance led the Sensex pack, followed by Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries, and SBI. Wipro, ITC, and Nestle India, on the other hand, were the laggards. In other Asian markets, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Seoul concluded the day with gains, while Shanghai completed the day with a loss. In mid-session trades, stock markets in Europe were also trading on a high note. Meanwhile, Brent crude, the worldwide benchmark for oil, increased 0.38 per cent to USD 74.24 per barrel.
