The Delhi High Court has issued a notice in response to public interest litigation (PIL) demanding suitable technical infrastructure for traffic infraction monitoring under the Motor Vehicles Act. According to Sonali Karwasara's petition, there have been several flaws in the effective implementation of the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act, 2019, which imposes hefty fines for traffic violations, due to the authorities' use of obsolete and outdated technologies to identify traffic violations by the general public.
Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh of the Division Bench have issued notifications to the Union of India through the Road Transport Ministry and the Delhi Government, and the matter has been set for hearing on March 28, 2022.
