After decades of running over 60% of the city's retail liquor shops, the Delhi government will legally depart the sector on Tuesday night, paving the way for new privately operated shops that promise to provide a better shopping experience for customers as a new excise regime takes effect on Wednesday.
The new retail stores in Delhi will remove the iron grilles in front of most liquor vends in the Capital, allowing customers to browse and purchase the brands of their choice; shops will be spacious, well lit, and air-conditioned to allow customers a walk-in experience under camera surveillance; and business hours will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with those at the airport possibly open 24 hours a day.
