Tech snag derails Metro services
The Delhi Metro's three corridors were delayed for nearly two hours on Thursday due to a technical glitch. Many commuters used social media to share photos of stranded passengers. In the morning, a large number of people, primarily office workers, use the metro to travel to their destinations in Delhi and neighboring cities. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued an alert to commuters around 9 a.m. via Twitter: "Delay in service on the Violet, Green, and Pink lines. Please allow extra time for your commute." "Train services on the Green, Violet, and Pink Lines were disrupted today from 8:05 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. due to intermittent signaling issues, which resulted in trains moving at a reduced speed on manual mode with full safety." "The signaling problem was reported by these lines, which use a Bombardier-based signaling system." During this time, services on these lines were regulated to minimize delays and inconvenience to passengers," said the spokesperson, adding that the DMRC will continue to investigate and raise the issue with Bombardier to avoid future failures. Meanwhile, commuters on Twitter shared images of long lines at many stations, with people waiting for trains. In response to the DMRC's tweet, one Mayank Sharma wrote, "No metro from last 20 minutes at Kashmere Gate heavy rush." Many passengers on these lines also tweeted that they had been "uninformed" about the reason for the delay. Around 11:30 a.m., the DMRC tweeted once more: "Service Improvements. Services have become more common. However, in order to avoid further disruption, the system is still being monitored. Passengers are asked to allow for some extra time during their journey."
