After the backlash on the social media, FIR has been lodged by the Senior Sub Inspector Amar Nath Yadav against the Amazon Prime's India Head of original content Aparna Purohit, 'Tandav' Web Series Director Ali Abbas Jafar, Producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra and Writer Gaurav Solanki and others in Hazaratganj Kotwali, Lucknow.
The FIR is filed under the different sections of the Indian Penal Code along with IT act which are:-
1. Section153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language),
2. Section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class),
3. Section 505 (1) (B) (statements conducing to public mischief with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquillity),
4. Section 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) and 5. Section 505 (2) (Whoever commits an offence specified in sub-section (2) in any place of worship or in any assembly engaged in the performance of religious worship or religious ceremonies, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to five years and shall also be liable to fine).
The Complaint states that after the perusal of the social media platforms, the anger among the people was noticed. It also states the web series was watched after orders of senior officials and it was found that in 17th minute of Episode 1, Hindu gods and goddesses are shown in an uncharitable way and using undignified language and the dialogues used in 22nd minute of Episode 1 may spread caste-based enmity.
As reported by the Press Trust of India, the cognizance of the complaints has been taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar and explanation has been sought from the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video on the issue.
