The Supreme Court of South Korea upheld the 20-year prison statement of former impeached president Park Guen-hye given by Seoul High Court. She is convicted on the charges of abuse of power, bribery and coercion in 2018 by Seoul Central District Court. Former president Park has exhausted her all legal remedies except special presidential pardon.
Park Guen-hye was elected as the first female head of South Korea in 2013 and also became the first elected head of the state in East Asia. In 2016, she was impeached by the National Assembly. She is accused of the scandal of lakhs of dollars with South Korea's large conglomerate, including Samsung.
Seoul Central District Court gave 24-year imprisonment byt reduced to 20-year imprisonment by Seoul High Court. She was awarded 15-year imprisonment for bribery and 5-year imprisonment for the abuse of power. She is also convicted for the additional 2-year imprisonment for manipulation in the nomination of the candidates of Saenuri Party during 2016 legislative elections.
In the survey by Pollster Real Meter, 48 percent people want conviction and 47.7 percent are in favour of pardoning her.
