The Apex Court said Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Ltd, which sells cars under the brands ŠKODA, VOLKSWAGEN, AUDI, PORSCHE & LAMBORGHINI, will face investigation by UP Police in a criminal complaint, lodged after global outrage against it for allegedly installing cheat devices in vehicles to suppress noxious emission levels. A bench of CJI S A Bobde, Justice A S Bopanna & Justice V Ramasubramanian dismissed a plea filed by Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Ltd seeking quashing of FIRs lodged on the basis of a complainant who alleged that though the company assured him that there were no cheat devices installed in the seven Volkswagen vehicles bought by him, the authorities found that nitrogen oxide emission levels from the vehicles were much higher. The High Court of Allahabad had refused to quash the FIR against Skoda Auto Volkswagen, It had appealed against the High Court decision in the Top Court.
