BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay filed PIL which SC bench led by justice RF Nariman called it Publicity Interest Litigation to stop the Black Magic, superstitions and deceitful religious conversations. He contended that religious conversion by "hook and crook" is against Article 14, 21, 25 and the secular nature of our country. It is the duty of the state and central governments under Article 51A to stop these deceitful religious conversions.
The petitioner has withdrawn the PIL and would approach the Law Commission and Law Ministry to appeal for his grievances.
