High Court was hearing the petition filled in the case Ranbir Singh and Ors. v. State of Haryana and Ors. comprising Bench of Justice Jaswant Singh and Justice Rajesh Bhardwaj.
The case was related to the petition filed by Residents of a village in Karnal, Haryana seeking court’s intervention in the work of road repairs on the stretch of road from their village to IOC Township. Petitioner contended that IOC was required to deposit the amount for the said work, which was not done.
“Here we are constrained to add that it is unfortunate to see Writ Jurisdiction being invoked at the drop of hat, as if High Courts are Tehsil Courts,” Punjab & Haryana High Court said.
Basically, citizens are invoking powers enshrined under Article-226 of the Indian constitution without approaching the appropriate forum.
