Advocate Rashmi Singh filed PIL in the Supreme Court for the vaccination of all the people who are above 18 years. This matter will be dealt the bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and RS Reddy on April 19.
The petitioner contends that many experts including the Indian Medical Association have raised concerns about the current pace of vaccination. The pace should be 10 million doses per day.
The applicant contends that it is a violation of Article 14 and Article 21 and it is arbitrary and unreasonable to not allow people between 18 and 45 years of age for vaccination. Currently, the vaccine is given to people above age 45 years. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for two doses of vaccination and by the time it will reach to the above 18 years, more people will be infected considering the 2 lakh cases per day reported on 15 April.
