It was a three-judge bench of Justices Ashok Bushan, Subhash Reddy and MR Shah, SC heard a batch pleas seeking CBI and NIA probes into the Palghar lynching case, alleging bias in the present investigation by the state authorities.
In the case Mahant Shradhananad Saraswati vs. the State of Maharashtra, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta requested the court for an adjournment due to personal difficulty.
Petitions were filed on behalf of Mahant Shradhananad Saraswati and Ghanshyam Upadhyay before the court, stating that how the police might have played an active role in the lynching of the shadhus at Palghar. The demand for a CBI investigation had been made by Mahant Swami Shradhananad Saraswati and six other sadhus of the Juna Akhara, and for an NIA probe by Ghanshyam Upadhyay.
The matter has been adjourned till next week.
