The Supreme Court on Monday expressed concern over the violent incident at Lakhimpur Kheri in which a junior Union minister's son allegedly mowed down four farmers and the angry farmers reportedly beat four BJP workers before setting the vehicle on fire.
Attorney general K K Venugopal said a large number of petitions challenging the validity of the three farm laws are pending before the SC. "AS the matter is subjudice, there should be no protests. They should try to take forward their pending challenge before the Supreme Court. A very unfortunate incident has happened at Lakhimpur Kheri. Eight lives have been lost."
The bench said, "When such incidents happen, no one takes responsibility. Deaths, damage to property and physical injuries, no one takes responsibility."
The AG requested the court to clarify that "when the SC is testing the validity of the three laws, they cannot continue with the protests as it is leading to unfortunate incidents."
