The Supreme Court has clarified its December 2019 ruling lifting the status quo in the Taj Trapezium Zone in terms of building, industrial activity, and tree felling, inasmuch as the order requires coordination with the Central Empowerment Committee and the view of NEERI.
On December 8, a bench of Justices L. Nageswara Rao, B. R. Gavai, and B. V. Nagarathna heard another Interlocutory Application seeking explanations and modifications to the 06.12.2019 Order.
The state government and other statutory bodies were allowed to grant environmental levels of security necessary for providing essential public facilities such as drinking water supply, sewerage treatment plant, drainage system, solid waste disposal, Common Effluent Treatment Plant, Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility, and Waste to Energy Plants, among others, under an order issued on December 6, 2019.The state of Uttar Pradesh was also given permission to remove 1803 trees for the purpose of expanding the Mathura-Deeng (Gobardhan) Road, which is located in the TTZ Area. The court also ordered the court-appointed committee on the process of evaluating tree loss to deliver its findings within four weeks, noting that the question of tree payment will be decided after that.
