Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister, advocated for the rapid and equitable distribution of vaccines to promote global recovery on Thursday. She gave her thoughts on India's pandemic policy and urged that recovery efforts should be based on a long-term strategy.
Sitharaman, speaking during the inaugural G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting under the Indonesian presidency, emphasised the importance of closing the gaps in global pandemic preparedness, and that the G20 Joint Finance and Health Task Force's efforts in this area should continue.
“In the first session today, FM talked about the global economic outlook and risks including #inflation, #supply disruptions and new variants of the virus and called for #expeditious and #equitable distribution of vaccines to aid #recovery,” a tweet by the Finance Ministry said.
To reduce the pandemic's scarring effects and develop resilience, she emphasised eliminating structural impediments.
