Bengaluru: A 42-year-old man in Karnataka, who allegedly hammered his 35-year-old live-in-partner to death was arrested by the cops. Reportedly, the accused, identified as Manjunath, took this extreme step at their rental house in Beereshwaranagar, Chunchaghatta Main Road last week and he even tried to pass off the crime as death due to excessive alcohol consumption. The deceased woman Manjula, a mother of two, worked as a housekeeping staff at a private insurance company and the accused worked as a bar bender. Furnishing further information on the case, the police stated that the accused attacked the woman with a hammer on January 6 late at night and he claimed that she fell unconscious after alcohol consumption and he subsequently took her to the hospital around 09:30 am on January 7, where she was declared brought dead by the doctors. However, the accused fled from the hospital after the doctors suspected that she might have died a few hours earlier, as per the Times of India report.
Further reports suggest that Manjula was living with Manjunath for the past 2 years and her husband had gone missing from hospital eight years ago. A thorough probe revealed that Manjunath was suspicious of Manjula's character and the duo often landed up in an argument over the matter. It was on January 6 when they had an argument over the same issue under the influence of alcohol. In the meantime, Manjunath assaulted Manjula with a hammer and even broke her legs and ribs following which she succumbed to her injuries.
After committing the heinous crime, the accused approached his house owner and arranged for an autorickshaw to take his live-in-partner to the hospital. He cited that Manjula fell unconscious after consuming excessive alcohol.
A case of suspicious death was initially registered by Konanakunte police who later changed it to murder charge after autopsy reports that revealed this to be the case. Further probe in connection with this matter is on and the accused was arrested on Wednesday and was also charged for destroying evidence after killing his live-in-partner.
