On Tuesday, after restarting his judicial duties less than a month after he was afflicted by COVID-19, Madras High Court Chief Justice AP Sahi received a warm welcome from the Bar. Justice Sahi sat in court this morning with Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy to dictate orders and take up a few issues through virtual mode. He said Let me take this opportunity to welcome you back," Another lawyer present literally said, "Everybody was appreciating that your Lordship went to a government hospital. "Senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi was also among the lawyers who upon his return to the Court, extended his greetings to the Chief Justice. "I did not know the Chief Justice was not well," he remarked. During the course of the warm exchanges, the Chief Justice reported that he may have overreached some subordinate courts in conducting physical inspections before he fell ill due to COVID-19. Chief Justice Sahi commented, "I have to confess there was an overreach on my part" Inspection is necessary to rejuvenate the subordinate judiciary,"Inspection is necessary to rejuvenate the subordinate judiciary."
A police booth in front of the court was inaugurated instead. "Chief Justice Sahi added that he informed the Police Superintendent that he took pictures of the booth and warned that, "Tomorrow morning there will be a FIR or no police booth."
Chief Justice Sahi said that the Court building was inaugurated the next day, expressing his satisfaction at the same time that it happened with his intervention. He said These small things are so important,
Rohatgi said he was glad that Chief Justice Sahi was back and smiling. The Chief Justice also announced that this week he would not take up more judicial matters and that the second bench, presided over by Justice Dr Vineet Kothari, could take up those matters.
Earlier this month, Chief Justice Sahi tested positive for COVID-19 and underwent therapy from the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. After 10 days of admission, he was officially discharged from the hospital about two weeks ago.
