Two Advocates Vaishnavi Gholave and Yogesh Morbale have approached Bombay High Court endeavouring Covid-19 Vaccination on priority basis to the members of judiciary, advocates, and their staff.
The plea filed through advocates Vinod P Sangvikar and Yashodeep Deshmukh has come in view of the fact that various persons of legal fraternity have been affected by the coronavirus after the courts were re-opened in the State of Maharashtra.
The petitioners have stated that they were compelled to approach the Court aggrieved by the "ignorance and negligence" of the Central and State governments to declare members of the legal fraternity as 'frontline workers'.
"The state must not be ignorant that access to justice is recognised as a Fundamental Rights and Judges, their staff and Advocates who are also referred as the officer of the court constitute the integral part of the access to justice which is required to deliver justice," the petition submits.
Not declaring members of the legal fraternity as front line workers and not providing them vaccination would, therefore, amount to depriving them of their right to health and life under Article 21 of the Constitution of India, the petitioners have contended.
