Supreme court stays FIR’s on Munun Dutta* Supreme Court stays 5 out of 6 FIRs registered against actor Munmun Dutta , for using Bhangi in her recent Instagram video Munun is a Tv serial actress in a Very famous show Tarak Meheta Ka Ooltah Chashmah , she is know by the name of Babita . She in her recent video talked about that she want to look beautiful and not BHANGI , bhangi is a casteist slur for lower caste untouchable people . She is agreeing to the matter that she said so , but the context was different according to her . Fir’s have been registered in this matter for hurting the sentiments of Scheduled caste community . A Division Bench of Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice V. Ramasubramanian issued a notice during a plea filed by Dutta against the FIR under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The petition has been filed by Dutta, seeking continue the FIRs registered against her while clubbing and consolidating the FIRs registered in various states. Senior Advocate Puneet Bali, appearing for Dutta, submitted that the incident has taken place as Dutta is Bengali and was unaware of the Word bhangi and meaning of the word. Whereas, the Bench contended, “That isn't true. you will not be told. Everyone knows the meaning. the identical word is employed in Bangla.” Mumun in her another video said that she is very sorry if anyone’s sentiment have been hurt . However, Bali stated, “She is agreeing that she said it, but the context was different. I can show the video. There is only one relief that this Court can grant me and the High Court cannot. Similar reliefs have been granted in matters of Amish Patel etc.” The bench directed a stay on the Fir’ s registered against her in different states . The court has listed the matter after six weeks
