Kasganj Custodial Death: Allahabad HC Requests SP's Response to Altaf's Father's Request for CBI Probe and $1 Million in Compensation

On Thursday, the Allahabad High Court ordered the Superintendent of Police, Kasganj, to respond within ten days to a petition filed by the father of Kasganj Custodial Death victim Altaf. The petition was filed by Chand Miyan (the victim's father), who requested a CBI investigation into the case, in which the Uttar Pradesh Police claimed Altaf committed suicide by tying himself to a 2 to the 3-foot pipe.

The Bench of Justices Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Subhash Vidyarthi heard the case and ordered the Superintendent of Police, Kasganj, to file a response/affidavit in the issue within ten days. Last week, the Allahabad High Court asked the Uttar Pradesh Government and others to respond to a petition filed by the People's Union For Civil Liberties (PUCL) to create Fast-Track Special Police Courts.
