President Joe Biden briefly handed over authority to Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday while undergoing a colonoscopy, making her the first woman in US history to wield the presidency. At the Walter Reed military hospital outside of Washington, the president was getting a routine physical. Biden spoke with Harris and White House chief strategist Ron Klain after the procedure, according to White House spokesperson Jen Psaki, and was "in good spirits."
Harris is the nation's first female vice president; no woman has ever held the position in the country's nearly 250-year history.
