The house speaker Nancy Pelosi said that the house will proceed with the process of impeachment of Trump if Vice president Mike Pence does not proceed with the invocation of the 25th amendment against Trump.
25th amendment talks about the removal of the outgoing president from office.
Pelosi was quoted by Huffpost as saying on Sunday, “In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both. As the days go by, the horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified and so is the immediate need for action.”
Joe Biden will be sworn as president on 20 January. Now Trump has less than two weeks in office.
This move by Nancy Pelosi was taken into consideration after Donald Trump's supporters stormed the US Capitol.
It has been seen that Mike Pence is unwilling to invoke the 25th amendment against Trump. So it is highly likely that Democrats will proceed with the impeachment proceedings of Trump.
If it happens, then Trump would become the first president to be impeached twice and if he is convicted then he could be barred from running the office in the future.
