Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was the collateral damage in a Twitter feud between Shashi Tharoor and Ramdas Athawale.
The controversy began when a Congress MP from Kerala shared a photo of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responding to a question about the Union Budget 2022, with Union Minister Ramdas Athawale in the background. The Finance Minister's "stunned and incredulous expression" demonstrates that even the Treasury bench couldn't accept the Finance Minister's boasts about the economy and her Budget, Tharoor said.
However, Tharoor, who is known as the Internet's English teacher, made some spelling mistakes that Athawale was not willing to overlook. Pointing out the mistakes, the Union Minister wrote: “Dear Shashi Tharoor ji, they say one is bound to make mistakes while making unnecessary claims and statements.”
Tharoor has now drawn JNU into the fight while confessing his error. In a subtle reference to the incoming vice-chancellor Santishree Dhulipadi Pandit's press statement, which made headlines recently due to grammatical errors, Tharoor said: “Careless typing is a bigger sin than bad English! But while you are on a roll, there’s someone at JNU who could benefit from your tuition.”
