Leander Paes, a former tennis player, has joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Goa. Mamata Banerjee, the party's supremo, made the statement on Friday, comparing Leander Paes to her younger brother.
At the same gathering in Goa, actor and activist Nafisa Ali joined the Trinamool Congress. Nafisa Ali was welcomed into Mamata Banerjee's party.
Mamata Banerjee arrived in Goa on Thursday, as the TMC sets up camp in the poll-bound state in the hopes of breaking into the BJP stronghold.
The TMC has stated that it will run for all 40 Assembly seats in Goa in the next elections and has begun inducting various local leaders. Mamata Banerjee's journey is being interpreted as an attempt by the chief minister to measure political sentiment in the state ahead of the assembly elections in early 2022.
