The Delhi High Court has ordered the UIDAI to provide information on over 400 people who were allegedly issued fake Aadhaar cards to enroll in civil defense training in the national capital. The Delhi government's petition seeking a direction to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to disclose information on Aadhar card holders sought by an investigation agency for the investigation of a case was granted. The Anti-Corruption Branch filed the case for alleged criminal conspiracy offenses under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. According to the petition, Vijender Gupta filed a complaint with the Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch alleging that the method of recruiting marshals for DTC buses was illegal. It was also claimed that the recruitment process was rigged and that the district magistrate issued fake certificates certifying them as Delhi residents to obtain Aadhar cards to over 400 people from his home state of Rajasthan, forcing them to pay Rs 2 lakh per head. It was claimed that a large number of Aadhar cards with bogus Delhi addresses were created for people from Rajasthan at the Aadhar center, which operated on holidays in the district magistrate's office. An FIR was filed based on the complaint in January 2020. The prosecutor told the court that the then-district magistrate had committed criminal misconduct by abusing his official position as a public servant with the ulterior motive of benefiting ineligible people and that there were approximately 450 candidates with fake Aadhar cards who had enrolled for civil defense training. The counsel for UIDAI stated that the authorities have no objection to sharing the requested information to the extent and in the manner permitted by the provisions of the Aadhar Act is directed by this court.
