The CBI investigation in the sensational Hathras case will now be observed by the Allahabad High Court as ordered by the Supreme Court. The case involved an alleged rape and murder of a 19 year-old Dalit girl followed by a forced cremation of the body by the police. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the situation the apex court said that all the aspects of the case, including monitoring of probe and providing security to the victim’s family as well as the witnesses, would be considered by the high court.
The court, earlier today turned down the plea of transferring the trial of the case to Delhi, saying that “the CBI is investigating the incident and there is no cause for any apprehension about the mistrial.” However, the court ensured that the issue will be kept open and would be taken up, if needed, after the completion of the probe into the case.
