Tech tycoon Google has filed a writ in the Karnataka High Court, requesting more time to respond to the CCI's questions about the Play Store rules investigation.
Google stated that it respects the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) investigation and that it "will continue to engage cooperatively and constructively in the interest of a fair investigation."
In an email on Monday, a Google spokesperson said, "We have filed a writ in the Karnataka High Court regarding the interim relief application in the Google Play probe by the CCI, seeking to move forward in line with established due process principles."
According to a source familiar with Google's stance on the matter, the deadline for developers in India to integrate with Play's billing system has been extended until October 31, 2022.
According to the source, Google believes that this voluntary extension of the deadline eliminates the need for Alliance of Digital India Foundation’s (ADIF) 'interim injunctive relief.' As a result, the insistence on strict timelines is "concerning," because "there is no reason for undue haste."
Google also made a number of procedural requests to the CCI, including the identity of the complainants and the inclusion of a judicial member on the investigation panel.
