On Thursday, Germany set a new record by registering 65,000 new coronavirus infections in 24 hours. This is the first time the figure has surpassed 60,000 in a single day since the outbreak began. At the same time, Lothar Wieler, the director of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the country's communicable diseases agency, warned that the figure may be considerably higher.
