On Friday, the SC said that the case against the Italian marines Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre would be closed after Rs 10 crores would be received in the Supreme Court account. The award was announced by the International Tribunal which gave "final and without appeal" judgment. India was bound under the UNCLOS agreement. The Republic of Italy informed that the amount of award will be transferred to the account given by MEA.
The Italian marines killed Indian fishermen thinking they were pirates. The Supreme Court granted permission to begin the case in India and a special court was formed. But later the Supreme Court stopped the proceedings and waited for the decision from the International Tribunal. According to the decision of the International Tribunal the case against the marines will go on in Italy, their native country, and the Republic of Italy have to pay award amount to compenstae the loss of life.
