With 519 new cases recorded on Saturday, the overall number of dengue cases in Punjab has risen to 16,129, the highest since 2017. In the state, there have been 61 probable dengue deaths so far. According to Punjab official figures, 21 deaths had occurred in the last four days.
In the entire year of 2017, 15,398 cases were documented. However, from October 1 to October 30, the number of dengue cases has surpassed that threshold. Experts predict that the number of cases will continue to grow through the end of November.
The monsoon, on the other hand, is being blamed by health officials for the spike in cases, which has aided in the spawning of dengue mosquitos. Authorities have not established any correlation between the rise in dengue infections and the decline in Covid cases in government records.
In Punjab, over 500 dengue cases are recorded per day on average, excluding hundreds of other symptomatic patients who never have their tests done.
