The Delhi High Court has stated that it will continue to hear cases via virtual mode until February 11. According to an office order dated January 12, the district courts will also only hear cases via video conferencing until then. "In continuation of this court's office order dated 30.12.2021, as directed by Hon'ble the Chief Justice, the existing system of hearing cases in this court [including the courts of Registrar and Joint Registrar (Judicial)] as well as district courts in Delhi shall continue until 11.02.2022," the most recent order stated. On December 30, the high court, which had resumed physical hearings on November 22, decided to switch to a virtual mode beginning January 3 due to an increase in Covid-19 cases and the subsequent 'yellow alert' declared by the government in the national capital. The decision to return to the virtual system was made after an office note was presented to Chief Justice D N Patel highlighting an increase in the number of Covid-19 infections. "There is undeniably a sudden surge and spike in Covid-19 cases in the National Capital Territory of Delhi." Such an increase is quite alarming and concerning. The government of the Nct Of Delhi has already issued a 'yellow alert' in Delhi. It is past time for this court to take all possible precautionary and preventive measures to thwart the resurgence of any extreme wave "According to the high court's statement. According to the statement, Justice Patel stated, "I also met with the distinguished members of this court's Administrative and General Supervision Committee. They are all of the opinion that immediate steps must be taken to protect the health and well-being of all stakeholders while also ensuring that the justice delivery system remains operational. Following the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2020, the high court first switched to a virtual system, and a few benches began holding physical courts on a daily rotation basis. High courts with physical courts also held hybrid proceedings, in which lawyers could attend the hearing via video conference rather than in person.
