Defamation proceedings against Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and others are stayed by the Bombay High Court.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday upheld a stay on defamation proceedings brought against the makers of the film Gangubai Kathiawadi because the complainant could not prove that he was Gangubai's adoptive son on the basis of prima facie evidence. While admitting the plea brought by lead star Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and others under section 482 of the CrPC, Justice SK Shinde noted that the petition did not appear to contain ingredients of defamation under section 499(1) of the IPC.
