Several top Indian companies, including those in manufacturing, industrial, metals and mining, and automotive, are looking to hire returning Indians or ex-pats, primarily from the United States and Europe, to meet their technical expertise needs, owing to rapid business digitization, a focus on new growth areas, and a scarcity of specialized tech talent in India. According to company officials and search industry experts, while many Indians who have lived in the United States for more than two decades are willing to return to India for greater responsibilities in a local company, the availability of remote work options is allowing companies to bring on ex-pats as technical experts who would fly into India once every two months or quarter and work from their home countries the rest of the time. Large Indian conglomerates and leading companies such as Vedanta NSE-1.18 %, Hero MotoCorp NSE 1.50 %, TVS Motors NSE-0.79 %, and JSW Group, among others, have stepped up their hiring of global experts, said top company officials and search firms.
