Colombo opening doors for Indian investors
Officials describe the newly developed Colombo Port City, which soars out of the water along the Sri Lankan seashore, as a "economic game changer" that will allow Indian entrepreneurs to invest in the global market. Saliya Wickramasuriya, director-general of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, stated in an interview that the project will provide opportunities to Indian players because the Indian subcontinent is our largest target market. Port City is a vast expanse of reclaimed sea sand that is being transformed into a high-tech city. It will be home to an offshore international financial center, residential areas, and a marina, drawing comparisons to Dubai and Singapore. "We don't want to be compared to Dubai and Singapore, which are well-established global markets." "We are newcomers, and this Port City is an attempt to provide a global market," Wickramasuriya says. Port City, Colombo, strategically located at the epicenter of South Asia, provides access to a thriving region poised for future growth and development as a key link between Asia and the West. Building on the foundations of Sri Lanka's rapidly growing economy, this project will be a vibrant city; a financial center that fosters an unrivalled living, working, and learning environment in the region. "Port City is being envisioned to improve Colombo Port's global status through the addition of financial and economic resources, with the ultimate goal of transforming the port."
