Former Chief Justice of Manipur, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar has been appointed as the head of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). This decision was approved by the central government. The post of Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar as the president of NCLT is assumed for period of five years or until he attains the age of 67 or until the further orders, whichever is earliest.
The central government’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs has request Justice Sudhakar to take the position of president within two weeks from the issuance letter i.e. October 29.
Justice Sudhakar was an Acting Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, also the judge of Madras and Jammu and Kashmir High Court. On 18th May 2018, he was elevated as the Chief Justice of Manipur and got retired in February 2021.
NCLT is a specialized court only for the companies registered in India, that is the court which deals with the corporate sector. It reduces the multiplicity of litigation before the different courts and forums.
