Recently, BJP was denied permission to conduct a roadshow of the famous Bollywood superstar, Mithun Chakraborty. Mithun Chakraborty has recently joined the saffron camp, within the Behala area of the town on Thursday. After getting a refusal of the roadshow, a group of party activists held a protest ahead of a police station. The agitation was led by the actor-turned-politician Srabanti Chatterjee, who is contesting from the Behala Paschim assembly constituency on a BJP ticket, party sources claimed.
The famous Bengali actor revealed that “The Kolkata Police didn't allow our leader Mithun Chakraborty to campaign on behalf of me within the constituency without citing any reason. The Trinamool Congress cannot avert its imminent loss by such an undemocratic act of preventing us from campaigning. Is that the state government afraid of losing power?”
Further, in front of the Parnasree police station, the saffron party activists shouted slogans against the ruling TMC. BJP sources claimed that the party pursued permission to carry a door-to-door campaign by the Bollywood superstar within the Behala area after the town police had canceled its roadshow plea on Wednesday night. They claimed that ”The door-to-door campaign by him was also not granted at the eleventh hour . ” However, The Kolkata Police has declined to form any remark on the issue.
Further, The BJP candidate later administered a roadshow within the constituency where the National Award-winning actor wasn't present. The actor-turned-BJP candidate is contesting against the TMC heavyweight and West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee, who is endeavoring re-election from the Behala Paschim constituency. a leader of the ruling party commented that ”We have nothing to do with any program of Mithun Chakraborty. we know that the TMC has the support of the people of Behala. The BJP candidate is doing drama” but Chakraborty led a roadshow in Tollygunj constituency for Union minister and BJP’s candidate Babul Supriyo.
