The President of India on Wednesday signed an ordinance brought up by the Central government to set up a permanent commission to tackle the problem of air pollution in the Delhi-NCR.
The Supreme court on Thursday, while making oral observations regarding the issue of worsening air quality in the capital, stated that it had been informally informed by experts that stubble burning was not the sole cause of air pollution, vehicular pollution was too a major contributor to the depleting air quality in region. To this, CJI Bobde remarked that, “All of you should stop using your beautiful cars, which you won’t do. Instead start using your bicycles.”
The Bench comprising of CJI Bobde, AS Bopanna & V. Subramanium, however posted the above matter for consideration till next friday as they wanted to go through the Centre’s ordinance thoroughly before passing any orders in regard to that.
