A lawyer has petitioned the Supreme Court, requesting that all future social media posts by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut be censored (regarding the Sardar Chanderpal
Singh v. Union of India)
The petition also requests that all pending FIRs against Ranaut be transferred to the Khar Police Station in Mumbai. He has also requested that chargesheets in these cases be submitted within six months and that trials be completed within two years.
The petitioner claims that Ranaut's Instagram post implied "Sikh Farmers were Khalistani Terrorists, Upholds the genocide of 1984, means that Sikhs should be treated as a lower race like unwanted mosquitoes, and they need a Guru like Mrs. Indira Gandhi when the Eternal Guru of the Sikhs is Guru Granth Sahibjee."
It is also stated that Ranaut's remarks were not only outrageous and blasphemous, but were also intended to incite riots, hurt religious sentiments, are defamatory, and portray Sikhs "in a totally anti-national manner."
As a result, the petitioner has requested that the Union Ministry of Information Technology, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), and state police authorities take preventive action. According to the petition, none of Ranaut's social media posts should be allowed without amendment, deletion, modification, or censorship.
A slew of complaints have been filed against the actress across the country for her comments on various platforms, including social media. Preeti Menon, a National Executive Member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), approached the Mumbai Police to file a FIR against Ranaut, alleging that she made seditious remarks in an interview with Times Now.
