The Maharashtra government is preparing to file a lawsuit against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. In addition, the government has begun the process of suspending the officer, citing indiscipline and other irregularities.
Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse said,"We are in the process to take legal action against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh for his indiscipline & other irregularities. The process for his suspension is also underway," as per news agency ANI.
A magistrate court in Mumbai cancelled the non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Param Bir Singh today. The warrant was issued in connection with an alleged extortion case registered at the Marine Drive police station. The NBW was issued earlier this month after Singh failed to report to work and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
The court declared Param Bir Singh absconding, and he reappeared in Mumbai last week on Thursday after being untraceable for nearly six months. The former top cop revealed his location after the Supreme Court granted him immunity from arrest. He clarified that he was remaining incognito because his life was in danger.
At least five extortion cases have been filed against him. He is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as well as questioned by the Chandiwal Commission, which was formed by the Maharashtra government to investigate the extortion allegations.
